Mediation

 

Unresolved conflict in the workplace can have high costs. Tension is emotionally draining, can undermine confidence and can cause sleepless nights as well as impairing ability to do effective work. Mediation offers a way forward.

 

Gill's role as mediator is to:

 

  • Provide a structure for conversation
  • Surface and clarify the needs of both individuals
  • Help each to understand the other
  • Notice and challenge patterns of communicating
  • Help both to find common ground
  • Encourage compromise
  • Identify actions for a positive way forward

 

People naturally feel apprehensive about mediation. Gill aims to maintain a relaxed, positive climate, whilst staying impartial, objective and supportive. Gill encourages participants to focus mainly on the future.

 

Typically Gill meets with both people on their own at least once, and then with both together at least once.

 

Participants usually find that it's possible to move forward in a positive way - even though it may have seemed impossible!
